As with all great love stories, ours began with an undeniable pull — two souls drawn together by something far greater than chance.
In coming together, we discovered a shared vision and a sacred purpose that neither of us expected – nor could have brought into form alone.
From the depths of that union, Sacred Journeys was born — a home for the ancient Twisted Hairs Lineage of Shamanic Teachings, Ceremonies, and Rites of Passage in Africa.
There was an undeniable spark, a recognition that something greater was weaving itself between us.
When I invited Lou back to South Africa, that spark ignited a shared vision that could not be ignored.
By early 2010, we took a leap of faith — and what began as a dream grew into reality: Sacred Journeys
Sacred Journeys was never something we simply built — it moved through us, demanding to be brought into form.
It continues to evolve and deepen, reminding us that this work is as much about living the journey as it is about offering it.
Every person's journey through life is sacred.

We believe that healing is not about becoming someone new or better — it is about remembering who you have always been.

Sacred Journeys holds an ancient body of Teachings, Ceremonies, and Rites of Passage. Generations of medicine women and men from Turtle Island (North, Central, and South America), known as the Twisted Hairs, have preserved this Lineage and shared its wisdom for thousands of years.
These elders walked a path of deep inquiry, gathering knowledge of nature, science, psychology, and spirit to form a holistic and practical path to human awakening and balance.
Hair symbolizes knowledge — each strand represents a thread of understanding, an insight, a teaching, a lived experience. By twisting, weaving, and braiding these strands together, wisdom becomes integrated and embodied.
Rather than following a single system, they wove together understandings of universal law, the human psyche, alignment with nature, and ceremony into pathways of healing and transformation.
In this way, knowledge becomes something we are — not just something we carry. Strong, resilient, and interconnected — like a braid — each strand strengthens the whole.
We continue to honour this Sacred Lineage and share these teachings in service of balance, harmony, and healing.

Like the wisdom keepers who came before us, we are travellers of both the inner and outer worlds. We move with purpose — following the timeless understanding that transformation can happen wherever hearts are open and intention is present.

Laurel Weaving Willow is a medicine woman. She honours & celebrates her role as a mother, daughter, sister, lover, mentor & teacher.
She weaves healing medicine into the fabric of all life, sharing the wisdom of her womb through the mantle of the matriarch.
She is able to direct one’s attention to the heart of the matter, to see what needs to be seen, feel what needs to be felt & heal the wounding deep within.
To sum up, Lou Worldweavers multifaceted skills and mastery in a wide range of fields is to call him an artist.
Whether he’s teaching students, leading a ceremony, cooking a meal, having a conversation or making love, Lou engages with them all as artistic expressions of one’s beauty.
He has made it his life’s mission to weave beauty into his life as well as empowering others to do the same for themselves.
THE CENTRE
Situated in the picturesque Valley of a 1000 Hills midway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, the Centre offers a sanctuary away from the busy-ness of the world so you can focus on YOU.
There are no televisions, radios, magazines or electronic devices and cellphones are strongly discouraged. This means outside distractions are limited, allowing you the time to immerse yourself in your personal journey and bask in the healing energy that this sacred ceremonial land offers you.
The Centre offers a large open plan teaching space, communal kitchen, indoor ablutions, 4 simple and comfy bedrooms sleeping a total of 10 - plus a magickal outdoor shower.
The medicine gardens are lovingly tended around the Centre, and just beyond the buildings you can walk into acres of natural bush that sings with an abundance of bird, plant and mineral life.
Not all our offerings are held at our homebase Retreat and Training Centre in KwaZulu Natal. As our Twisted Hairs Elders before us, we are also travellers, movers and shakers - so we have the priveledge of going where spirit and the people need us.

Surrounding the Centre, you will find our unique medicine wheel gardens, who have much to share with you. You can either explore the gardens on your own, or use one of our guided ceremonies.
Wind yourself into the Tapu’At Labyrinth (meaning “Mother-Child”) as you feel her rhythm of new life springing up inside you. Spiralling into her centre, you will meet Grandfather Baobab, who gently whispers his song of wisdom.
Lighten your spirit by playing with the faeries in the Tolilaqui Garden or let the sound of the trickling waters flow intimately into your heart. Align to the heartbeat of the earth as you step into the welcoming embrace of the Women’s Garden.
Harmonize yourself with this open air orchestra as you merge your senses with the exquisite sunsets and the breathtaking views of the valley. Learn to silence your mind and take command of your inner world as you listen to and learn from the outer world.
The Flowering Tree Ceremony guides you around the medicine wheel so you can identify what is holding you back from fully manifesting your Dream.
The Medicine Wheel Walk Ceremony opens doorways to each direction of the wheel so you can look into the different aspects of your self and reclaim the lost parts of your wholeness.
The Nature Walk Talk Ceremony creates an opportunity to communicate with and listen to the worlds of Grandmother Earth: the minerals, plants, animals and humans. Walk and talk with these worlds, allowing them to become your teachers and guides.
